Community Service

Community service, along with the grants program, is the very essence of our Giving Circle. The two activities are connected because our service is offered on a regular basis to our grant recipients. We welcome both members and non-members to participate. It is a wonderful way to bond with warm, caring and intelligent women who are willing to give a few hours of their time for the needs of others.

These are just a few of the activities, over the years, in which we have served our grant recipients:

  • A Wider Circle
For this charity that aids individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness, we help clients select toys and clothes for holiday gifts at AWC's Santa's Workshop/The North Pole. In addition, we have made Thanksgiving food baskets for families and helped clients of AWC's Professional Development Center acquire suitable clothing for employment.

  • Urban Alliance
Every summer, we serve as judges for the Urban Alliance Public Speaking Challenge - the graduation activity for the UA high school interns. After working for a year for a local employer, each intern makes a PowerPoint presentation on their workplace experience and their plans for the future. As judges, we offer constructive feedback and encouragement.  The event takes place at the World Bank.

  • Interfaith Works
We've prepared and served meals for the women staying in Interfaith's shelter and mentored some of Interfaith's clients in order to get them ready for job interviews and placement.
